Jim wasn't really sure how to feel as he took a seat at his desk the next morning. Well, it was technically the same morning...but that wasn't the point at all. Last night had many, many ups and downs. The best way to describe it? A roller coaster.

Before he had gone off to work this morning, he had heard the message that Karen had left on his cell phone. It was a relief and he was glad to know that she was going to be all right, but at the same time it had somehow made everything much worse. It was true that she had lied to him and he wished that she hadn't kept something so big and so important from him, but he could not blame her for not wanting to share any of that with him.

Jim knew that everything was going to have to come out into the open eventually. In time he would have to tell Karen about everything and he guessed by her phone call that she had things that she wanted to tell him as well. For now, Jim would content himself with seeing where everything went and patiently waiting.

It was like Pam had said earlier, it would be wrong of them to throw everything out for everyone to see. He definitely did not want that. But then again, he didn't want Karen to find out anything by sneaking around and catching him, anyway. Both of those situations would not have a very desirable outcome. Right now it was probably better if they just pretended that everything was normal. Everything was fine. There was nothing going on. Nothing at all.

Jim couldn't help but think, Yeah. Right. and laugh to himself as he thought of what had happened between he and Pam.

This was going to be a lot harder than he had thought.

Karen came into work -- she felt wasted. She was drained -- she looked at Jim and smiled softly to him. She then looks over at Pam and smiles; Pam looked a little shocked and smiled back. She hesitantly walks over to Jim's desk and taps his shoulder.

"Um -- at lunch -- do you wanna talk?"

She was nervous -- her heart was pounding so fast.

Jim was surprised to see Karen there, but her presence was a relief all the same. One of the first things that he had noticed about Karen was that she looked extremely worn out. Really though, he couldn't really expect her to be any different. How she had even managed to come into work today was a complete mystery to him.

Noticing that she was speaking to him, he returned the smile. Jim's reaction was somewhat delayed due to shock and the fact that he had at that moment glanced over to see that Pam had fallen asleep.

He nodded and smiled reassuringly at her. "Yeah. Of course." he paused before adding, "I'm glad you're okay."

She gave him a big smile, she could tell he was shocked by what she had said to him. She was exhausted -- she could barely stand up so she leaned herself up against his desk. How could she tell him that she could've died last night? How would that make him feel? She was scared -- for herself and for what he was going to find out.

"Okay -- sounds good," She smiles softly. "Thanks --"

Then she added in a whisper,

"I'm really sorry."

She squeezes his hand and looks down.

Jim shook his head and causally pulled his hand out of hers.

"Don't be." he said.

He didn't want for her to think that it was all her fault or that she had done something wrong, because she hadn't. It wasn't as though she had done any of it on purpose.

She nodded and smiled.

"Okay, I'll see you at lunch then."

As she walks away she looks over at Pam and feels complete sympathy for her -- she was asleep at her desk.

The only thing Karen wondered was why she was so sleepy -- Jim looked sleepy too.

She wanted to talk to Pam and tell her basically that she was okay with -- whatever happened.
