We've Got A Big Mess On Our Hands Tonight. [Jun. 1st, 2007|05:23 pm]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |nauseatednauseated]

Karen walked back to her desk after placing the note on Pam's computer screen. She looked at the clock -- it said 11:45 A.M. - almost time for lunch. She wanted to tell Jim everything, she wanted to tell him how sorry she was for everything -- for not telling him most of it. They were dating for so long that she didn't want him to feel like he had to always be there for her. She was tired, her muscles ached - the new medicine made her nauseas. She hated being on it, that's why she stopped taking it.

She looks around the Office, everyone looks dead. Jim and Pam look like the living dead; she thought she probably looked like a monster. She went to the bathroom and checked herself in the mirror. She had dark circles under her eyes and her hair was frizzy. She didn't have time to straighten it or time to put any product in it. She turned the sink on and splashed her face with cold water, that made her feel better.

She suddenly wanted a cigarette -- she hadn't smoked for three years.

With the sudden urge for a cigarette subsiding she glances over at Jim, he's leaning his cheek on his right hand while trying to read something and his eyes keep closing. She looks at Pam and she's still dozing -- her head would snap up and when she did it this time -- she looked right at her screen.

A cigarette sounds really good right about now.

A Plain Morning. [May. 31st, 2007|07:32 pm]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |exhaustedexhausted]

Pam ran her hand over her face, and wondered why she'd decided to come in today. She had hardly gotten a lick of sleep after Jim had left; her happiness contributed for her sudden insomnia.

Her eyes itched with their dryness, and if she nodded off one more time, she swore the office would think she was on drugs. She sighed took another sip of her tea, hoping the sharp lemon flavor and scent would perk her up. Pam knew that her fatigue would invite annoyance from Dwight and nosy questions from Michael.

It was already the middle of the morning, and Jim still hadn't come by the desk. She understood why, but she still felt lonely, and wanted to commiserate with him and their exhaustion. And speaking of exhaustion, Karen had arrived looking like one of the living dead. She'd stopped by Jim's desk to talk to him, and while it didn't look confrontational, it looked serious. Karen had even smiled at her, which completely took her by surprise.

Pam rested her head in her hands, and imagined that she and Jim were the only people in the office, so she could go over and curl up in his lap. Her eyes began to droop, and she was soon asleep.

[Current Mood |tiredtired]

Jim wasn't really sure how to feel as he took a seat at his desk the next morning. Well, it was technically the same morning...but that wasn't the point at all. Last night had many, many ups and downs. The best way to describe it? A roller coaster.

Before he had gone off to work this morning, he had heard the message that Karen had left on his cell phone. It was a relief and he was glad to know that she was going to be all right, but at the same time it had somehow made everything much worse. It was true that she had lied to him and he wished that she hadn't kept something so big and so important from him, but he could not blame her for not wanting to share any of that with him.

Jim knew that everything was going to have to come out into the open eventually. In time he would have to tell Karen about everything and he guessed by her phone call that she had things that she wanted to tell him as well. For now, Jim would content himself with seeing where everything went and patiently waiting.

It was like Pam had said earlier, it would be wrong of them to throw everything out for everyone to see. He definitely did not want that. But then again, he didn't want Karen to find out anything by sneaking around and catching him, anyway. Both of those situations would not have a very desirable outcome. Right now it was probably better if they just pretended that everything was normal. Everything was fine. There was nothing going on. Nothing at all.

Jim couldn't help but think, Yeah. Right. and laugh to himself as he thought of what had happened between he and Pam.

This was going to be a lot harder than he had thought.

Hold Your Head High Heavy Heart. [May. 25th, 2007|12:02 am]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |numbnumb]

Karen sat on her couch staring off into space. Everything had happened so fast -- she didn't expect it to. She didn't expect to have her epileptic episode in front of Jim. She didn't expect to be this upset. She doesn't know why she accused him of sleeping with her -- she hated how she acted eariler that night. She tells herself that she should be mad that Jim up and left her like that -- but she wasn't. She loved Jim. She really did. But, she didn't know if things were done now. She didn't know if they would still be friends.

The doctor said if Jim didn't take her to the hospital -- she would've died. Jim basically saved her life. She hadn't taken her medicine in six months -- they had to run a CAT scan to look at her brain activity. Realization suddenly hit her --- she could've died. What if she died in Jim's arms, how would he feel? She hated thinking about the consequences. It was her own fault, though. She was basically killing herself.

She was dreading going into work in the morning, but she had to. She didn't want to hate anyone, as much as she was hurt -- she couldn't do it. Pam was a really sweet girl, she couldn't do it. She would walk in, look Pam straight in the eyes --- and smile. She wishes she was brave like Pam -- she wishes she had confidence.

Maybe it's time for me to be honest with people.

She picked up her cell phone hesitantly and dialed Jim's number. Luckily, it went to voice mail.

She sighed heavily and left a message ...

Hey -- it's me -- Karen, um -- I just wanted to tell you I'm home from the hospital. I'm sorry - about everything. Jim -- I haven't been fully honest with you -- and I shouldn't have kept this from you. I know -- I know telling this over the phone is a bad idea but -- I have to. I have to tell you what's been going on with me and what I've been basically doing to myself which basically puts me at fault here. I'm sick -- I'm really sick -- and -- you know .. I think it's better if we talked in person. If that's okay? Just -- normal -- talk. I need to tell you everything. I'll -- call me back or -- I'll talk to you soon. Just we really need to talk -- please. I- I love you, Jim. Goodbye.

She shut her phone and a tear went down her cheek; she hates herself for not telling him. But -- will he hate her too?

Sleepless in Scranton. [May. 23rd, 2007|01:17 am]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |tiredtired]

Tossing and turning, Pam rolled over just in time to see raindrops gathering on her window. She'd gone to bed an hour earlier, but couldn't keep her eyes closed for a second without replaying the night in her mind.

I love you Pam.

She clutched her pillow to her chest and wished it was him. She hoped that he'd gotten home before the rain started; she hoped that he was safe in bed - thinking of her. Not all of her thoughts were rose tinted though. Soon after Jim had left, she'd gone to the shower, and she became sick with the thought that she would have to face Karen in the morning. She had spent the night canoodling with another woman's man. How could she face her in the morning? What if Jim told her about it? She couldn't bear to see the hurt and betrayal in Karen's face.

The new her was brave, sure. Reckless with words, most definitely. But this...this just wasn't right.

But it felt right. Oh, so right. If this was a fairy tale, they would have had their happy ending a year ago, at Casino Night. If things could have been different....

She rolled over again, wrapping her comforter tighter around her body, attempting to absorb the warmth.

Jim seemed sincere enough when he told her how he felt, when he kissed her against his car, nuzzled her neck in the kitchen not too long ago. But who knew what would happen tomorrow? She could wish and hope all she wanted, but in the end, it was up to him and what he really wanted. And she wanted him to want her.

She wanted to hear his voice and grabbed her cell, but one glance at her clock told her otherwise. Hm, she thought, a text will do:

Hope ur warm & safe at home.

Then she added:

Whatever the choice is, be happy. I'll always love you.

She clicked send and put the phone back on her night stand. And with silent tears dripping down her checks, she squeezed her pillow once more, and fell asleep to the sound of the rain.

I want to break free. [May. 19th, 2007|12:32 am]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |anxiousanxious]

Karen sat on her couch in her apartment with a carton of ice cream in front of her; it was half gone and she was bored out of her mind. She thought maybe she should've taken up that dinner offer with Jim; but at the same time ... it would've been awkward. Maybe him catching up with Pam would be good; she figured they had a lot to catch up on. Earlier today, the look on his face after she said that she didn't want to impose, confused her. Was she competing with the receptionist Pam Beesley?

She had no problem with Pam whatsoever, but did Pam have a problem with her?

She hesitantly picked up her cell phone and dialed Jim's number; it rang three times, then went to voice mail.
You have reached the voice mail of Jim Halpert, please leave a message after the beep.

Karen was relieved that she got his voicemail; she wouldn't know what to say if he picked up. She left him a pretty straight foreward message that was a simple, "Hey Jim, it's Karen --- just calling to check in, um --- I think I'll take you up on that dinner offer; but maybe another night since you're with Pam. Call me when you get home or something, Bye."

Was she too much of a hassle? Did Pam really hate her?

She wanted to know; she wanted to know what she did or what caused an awkward tension today at work.

God knows what's going on.

Where to from here? [May. 19th, 2007|06:44 pm]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |nervousnervous]

Jim stood nervously outside Pam's door. Even though he had told her that he was coming, he still did not want to have come at the right time. Tonight was definitely going to be important. The day had already been very eventful and they hadn't even done all that much around the office.

Still, he was debating whether or not to knock. He could just turn around and run away. And when he saw her again at work, he would just make up some story about how he had not been feeling well and that he hadn't gotten a chance to call her before he passed out.

But that might hurt her feelings. She might suspect that he'd left on purpose or that he wasn't at all interested in being friends with her again. That was certainly not the case. He just didn't want to mess everything up this time. He wanted it to work. He wanted for them to be friends again.

He also wanted to fix whatever mess he'd made between him and Karen, but that was another battle.

Taking a deep breath, he knocked on the door. There was no going back now.

Dropping Eaves. [May. 18th, 2007|06:09 pm]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |lonelylonely]

Giggling softly to herself, Pam walked out of Michael's office, leaving him to clean up his mess.

She sat back down at her desk, noting that Jim didn't wait for her to come back. To be honest, she hadn't really been surprised, what with Karen coming over and all. She pushed that fact out of her head and reveled in another one: Jim and her had an actual conversation. Not just "Hello" and "Good-bye", which had become commonplace for them since he had returned. Better still, they were going to have dinner. Tonight.

It was just going to be sandwiches at Cugino's and she knew that it wasn't going to be anything like a real date, but, nevertheless, Pam couldn't be more excited. Scared, but still, excited.

As she started to straighten up her desk, something she usually did before having lunch, she looked around the office to see what everyone else was up to. Ryan, who now sat where Jim used to, looked like he was sleeping with his eyes open. Dwight was on the phone making a sale, and Oscar, Angela, and Kevin (or, the Accountants Three, as she liked to call them) were having an animated discussion about paychecks...or something, she couldn't really hear them. Everyone else seemed to be at the same level of pre-lunch stupor.

Her eyes soon settled on Jim and Karen, who were talking at her desk, Jim standing and Karen sitting. They looked....uncomfortable. Pam strained her ears to listen, but couldn't really make out the words. She studied their faces a few moments more, and figured without hearing a word, that they were most likely talking about her. Suddenly, she felt like she was being shot back to her first day of junior high; nerves all a-tangle, and a feeling of needless embarrassment.

And that, she thought, is my cue for lunch.

She set the phone to voicemail, and quietly walked to the break room.

Curiousity Killed the Cat. [May. 13th, 2007|07:36 pm]
Dunder-Mifflin Scranton (An Office RP)
[Current Mood |blankblank]

Karen Filippelli was getting exhausted; her eyes started seeing shapes because she was staring at the computer screen for at least three hours now. It was never this hard to keep focused when she worked in Stamford; her new boss was quite a hassle.

She leaned back in her chair and looked over at where Jim Halpert was sitting. Once he feels eyes on him, he looks up and smiles at her. She didn't expect to fall for one of her co-workers; she didn't expect to get him. At first, she thought he seemed a bit weird; always making funny faces at the camera, then she started to have a little crush on him. The only time she was ever really close to him was when he was extremely plastered and wanting to ride his bike home. He seemed so mysterious and so sweet and she wanted to know more. Who would've thought that the stuff he didn't tell her would make things awkward for her during her times in Scranton.

She pulls away from his gaze and her eyes travel to Pam Beesly's desk; the quiet receptionist. She wishes she knew what happened between them a little better. Though, it wasn't any of her business and she wasn't going to let Jim spill; she was still curious.

She sighs, closes her eyes, and sort of wishes the day was over.

Powers. [May. 13th, 2007|07:00 pm]

[Current Mood |lonelylonely]

Pam Beesly should have been filing away some paperwork for Michael. But, at the moment she was wishing she had the power of mind control. If she did, Jim Halpert wouldn't be sitting at his desk, avoiding her occasional glances. He'd already be at her desk, snacking on Jelly Bellies and making her smile with his jokes and plans for torturing Dwight. He didn't look like he was moving anytime soon though, so she tried to concentrate on her work.

When she had first heard about the merger, Pam was overjoyed at the thought of Jim coming back. She could finally make it right between them. She'd never called him after the casino night fiasco, and she continued not calling him after he left for Stamford. The one time she did try to call him at the office, a receptionist picked up, startling her. He ended up being in a meeting, and Pam had never bothered to leave her name. So, when she heard his named mentioned in the employee list, she saw some hope. Roy was out of her life for good now, and she wanted Jim back in.

She didn't expect her though. Karen Fillipelli. Beautiful. Smart. Sophisticated. Really damn nice. Jim's co-worker. Jim's new girlfriend. And now that she was here, Jim didn't even seem to notice Pam existed.

A yawn woke her from her thoughts. Jim had pushed his chair away from his desk and was stretching. He seemed to be looking to get up and take a break. Hopefully, he'd look her way. Maybe even talk to her.
